What is Panchak?

Panchak Yoga is a very inauspicious time period or Dosha period of five days when the moon is positioned in the last two zodiac signs, Aquarius and Pisces. This is not a favorable stellar combination and it is advisable to not start any important work or perform any auspicious events such as marriage, mundan, Griha Pravesh, Upnayan Sanskar, house warming, welcome of new bride etc, during Panchak Yog.

What is Panchak in astrology?

Panchak meaning: The word Panchak refers to a group of five. As per Vedic astrology, Panchak is created due to the union of 5 constellations or Nakshatras, called Panchak Nakshatras. They are- Dhanishtha, Poorva Bhadrapada, Shatbhisha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati Nakshatra. 

Panchak Yoga begins when the Moon enters Aquarius and the third phase of Dhanishta commences. Afterward, the moon transits through the other Nakshatras- Shatbhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati respectively. It takes 5 days for the moon to complete the journey through these Nakshatras. Panchak Yog occurs repetitively after a period of every 27 days.

If a child is born in Panchak Nakshatra, then he/she experiences various defects throughout the life. During Panchak Yoga, the moon transits through five Nakshatras. If a death happens during Panchak and proper cremation Vedic rituals are not performed, then there are high chances that four people from the deceased’s family will also meet to death within a period of 24 months.

Things to Avoid in Panchak

As per Hindu scriptures, one should abstain from the specific activities during the Panchak Yog period. Here is what should not be done in Panchak Kaal. 

• One should avoid traveling towards the South direction as it is associated with Lord Yama, the god of death.
• If your house or building is under construction, then avoid constructing a roof of the building till the Panchak Yog ends.
• Do not cut wood or collect grass or fuel related things as it may cause a fire in the house during this period.
• Do not start any auspicious activity or new business or new transaction in Panchak Kaal.
• Avoid Buying or constructing or donating a bed, mattress, etc. during the Panchak Yoga period.

Types of Panchak Yog

There are five types of Panchak Yoga based on the days Panchak Yoga commences. These are.

Rog Panchak

The word “Rog” refers to disease. This Panchak Yoga Starts on Sunday. As per Vedic astrology, Rog Panchak causes physical and mental stress.

Raj Panchak

The word “Raj'' signifies to rule. This Panchak starts on Monday. This is the most favorable Panchak. During this Panchak Kaal, you may gain success and gains in land and property-related matters.

Agni Panchak

“Agni” means fire. When the Panchank starts on Tuesday, it is referred to as Agni Panchak. During this Panchak, one should avoid work related to construction, machinery and tools. There is a high risk of fire during this Panchak period. However, this Panchak Kaal is very beneficial for success in matters of litigation.

Chor Panchak

The literal meaning of “Chor” is a thief. When the commencement of Panchak on Friday, it is called Chor Panchak. Monetary transactions, business deals and financial investments should be avoided during this Panchak. Also, one should strictly avoid traveling during the Chor Panchak period.

Mrityu Panchak

Mrityu means death. The Panchak period starting from Saturday is called Mrityu Panchak. This is the most troublesome period for the natives. It is advisable to avoid taking risks in this Kaal as there are high chances of injuries and accidents during this Panchak. Natives may also indulge in conflicts or unnecessary arguments with people during the period of Mrityu Panchak.

• Engagement, marriage and wedding-related activities can be performed during the Panchak Period. However, one should consult an astrologer to find the auspicious date for marriage.
• Commencement of Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati on Sunday lead to auspicious Yogas like Char, Sthir and Pravardh Yoga. These Yogas are fruitful for achieving success in finances. 
• Griha Pravesh, Puja, planting new trees can be done when Uttara Bhadrapada falls during the Panchak period. However, consultation of your astrologer and priest is suggested to find auspicious days for house warming and Puja.
• You may buy clothes, jewelry during Dhanishta and Shatbhisha Panchak Kaal. Traveling marketing and entertainment is also considered auspicious during these Panchak Nakshatra.
